🌿 Laser Hair Removal: What to Do Before and After TreatmentThe Beauty Spot Liverpool – Nurse-Led Clinic | Old Swan, Liverpool

To achieve the best and safest results from your laser hair removal treatment, preparation and aftercare are key.
At The Beauty Spot Liverpool, we want every client to leave with smooth, glowing skin and confidence — so here’s everything you should know about what to do before and after your session.

🔸 Before Your Laser Hair Removal Treatment

1. Avoid waxing, plucking or epilating (for at least 4 weeks)

These methods remove the root of the hair, which the laser needs to target. You can still shave, but please don’t wax or pluck before your appointment.

2. Shave the treatment area 24 hours before your session

Shaving ensures the laser targets the follicle directly, not the hair on the surface.
It also makes your treatment more comfortable and efficient.

3. Stay out of the sun and avoid fake tan

Avoid sun exposure, sunbeds and self-tanners for at least 2 weeks before your treatment.
Tanned or sunburnt skin is more sensitive and increases the risk of pigmentation or irritation.

4. Skip skincare actives and perfumes

Avoid retinol, glycolic acid, exfoliants or perfumed products on the treatment area 48 hours before your session.

5. Avoid caffeine and alcohol on the day

These can make your skin more sensitive. Staying hydrated helps your skin recover faster.

6. Come with clean skin

Make sure the area is free from makeup, deodorant, lotion or oils before your session.

🔹 After Your Laser Hair Removal Treatment

1. Avoid heat for 24–48 hours

Stay away from hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, or workouts that cause sweating.
Your skin will be slightly more sensitive, so keeping it cool helps reduce redness.

2. No sun exposure for at least 1–2 weeks

Your skin is more vulnerable to UV rays after treatment. Always use broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily on the treated area.

3. Avoid perfumed or harsh products

Skip any perfumed creams, exfoliants, or active ingredients for 2–3 days. Use gentle, fragrance-free moisturisers instead.

4. Don’t wax or pluck between sessions

If you need to remove hair, only shave between treatments.
This ensures that each session effectively targets new hair growth in the Anagen phase.

5. Soothe with aloe vera or cooling gel

Mild redness or sensitivity is normal. Apply pure aloe vera gel to calm and hydrate the area.

6. Be consistent with your sessions

For the best results, follow the plan your practitioner recommends — usually every 4–6 weeks depending on the area and your skin type.
